Hours
Due to its open nature, the Information Commons is open all hours the campus is open. All student use desktops and printing services are online and open for use during this time. For any loans, research help, or assistance using resources, we recommend you stop by during our staffed hours which are 9am-5pm Monday-Thursday, and 9am-1pm on Fridays. Please note, these hours are subject to change and at times must accommodate for shift changes.
Location
The Information Commons space is located at the USF Sarasota-Manatee campus at 8350 North Tamiami Trail, Sarasota, FL 34243. Our room number is C203. Our space is located on the second floor of the building, in the Main Rotunda structure. After exiting the elevators on the second floor, patrons should find the space immediately to their left.
Staffing
Our space is staffed with several different team members. Our Resource Desk is staffed by our Information Commons Staff Assistants. These team members are trained student workers who specialize in our resources and are here to assist with any request. Higher-level requests will likely be directed to our professional Library Staff.
For all research requests, your best bet is to contact our Assistant Librarian Jessica Szempruch at jszempru@usf.edu.
For all other requests including those pertaining to equipment/book loans as well as space management, please contact our Coordinator of Library Operations Draper Harris at draperharris@usf.edu.
Academic Resource Desk
As you enter the Information Commons, you'll find to your right side the Academic Resource Desk. Staffed by our Library Staff Assistants, this desk serves as a landing point for the space. Students, Faculty, and Community Members can stop by during our staffed periods to get quick answers to library services related questions, get physical resources loaned out, or get basic tech troubleshooting handled by our teams of experts.
Print Station
Provided by the Student Government Association, the Print Stations provides compliemntary printing each day for students who are currently enrolled. At this time, Student Government provides $3.00 of daily non-compoundable print money for students to utilize at any time. Students need only their Student ID in order to pull up print jobs, and can use either the black and white printer or the color printer.
Supply Station
For last minute class room needs, or preparation for big project deliveries, the Information Commons' Supply Station comes equipped with a variety of resources. Students can take advantage of free writing tools, organizational equipment, and preparation toolsets to make sure they come to each class prepared at a low cost.
Study Room
In need of a shared space to do study work? The study room can be reserved by student groups for team based projects, and is equipped with a Media Scape table for collaborative screen sharing. The space is the only designated reservable space on campus for students, and is open for use any time the building is open.
Open Use Computers
Within our space, we have a total of 8 open use desktops with top of the line hardware. These desktops are open to use for all USF students, and can be signed into using your NetID and Password. On each desktop is hooked up the Student Printers, as well as installed with the entire Office 365 software package for use. Additional software may be added at the discretion of the Information Commons professional staff.
Rotunda Study Space
Outside of the glassed in area, the Information Commons offers dozens of tables, couches, and comfortable seating for student use. This space is considered collaborative space and can at busier times create some noise due to the open air layout. If you are comfortable with this set up, this space is open all hours the campus is open and is a perfect place for a long study session or an online exam.
